Education Commission of the States
The Education Commission of the States (ECS) is a valuable partner of Literate Nation’s. They have helped us as well as policymakers develop effective policy and practice for public education by providing data, research, analysis, and leadership, and by facilitating collaboration, the exchange of ideas among the states, and long-range strategic thinking. ECS was formed in 1965 to help improve their educational systems, and is guided by more than 300 of the nation’s education leaders.
ECS has helped to keep Literate Nation abreast of state activity by gathering, analyzing, and disseminating information about research, current and emerging issues, trends, and innovations in state education policy. We encourage every one in the Literate Nation network to support ECS and their work.
Red-E Set Grow
Predictive Assessment of Reading
PAR, has four sub-tests based on the skills every child needs in order to learn to read and keep growing as a reader. The PAR is appropriate for all children – including typically developing and gifted children, most children with special needs, and ELL-Spanish – beginning with second semester Pre-K children transitioning to Kindergarten and for children in Kindergarten through 3rd grade. The results of the PAR should be used to plan targeted instruction for readers. The instructional suggestions include the areas of reading in which a student needs the most support and the grouping needed to give each student the appropriate level of attention.
